Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – A stretch of late-summer warmth will hold through Tuesday, but residents in the Quad Cities should prepare for a sharp change midweek. Temperatures will tumble nearly 20 degrees by Thursday after a strong cold front pushes through with rain and scattered thunderstorms Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, highs will reach the upper 70s Monday and Tuesday under mostly sunny skies. The front will arrive Wednesday afternoon, triggering showers and storms, some of which could briefly impact evening commuters across Davenport, Moline, and Bettendorf.

Travelers on I-80 and I-74 may encounter slick roads late Wednesday, while cooler northwest winds usher in the season’s first hint of fall. Highs on Thursday may struggle to climb out of the low 60s, with lingering sprinkles possible. Overnight lows could dip into the mid-40s across rural counties, a significant change from recent mornings in the 50s.

Residents are urged to prepare for the chill by checking furnaces, securing outdoor plants, and keeping jackets handy for the late-week cooldown.

More rain chances could follow into next weekend as the pattern stays unsettled.
