Davenport, IA – The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a Winter Storm Warning for large portions of eastern Iowa, northwest Illinois, and northeast Missouri, in effect from Friday night through early Sunday morning.

Forecasters expect heavy snow and strong winds, with total accumulations between 7 and 14 inches depending on location. Areas from Cedar Rapids to Dubuque, Davenport, Rock Island, and Muscatine could see the highest totals, while Burlington, Fort Madison, and Macomb may receive between 7 and 10 inches. Wind gusts up to 35 mph are expected to produce blowing snow and near-whiteout conditions at times.

The storm will make travel very difficult to impossible, especially on Interstate 80 and connecting routes across the region. “Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous,” the NWS warned.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and keep emergency kits in vehicles, including food, water, blankets, and flashlights. For the latest road conditions, visit 511ia.org in Iowa or gettingaroundillinois.com in Illinois.

Snow is expected to taper off by early Sunday, though icy and snow-covered roads will likely persist into the start of the new week.
