Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – Widespread rain drenched communities south of Interstate 80 over the past two days, with several areas in eastern Iowa and western Illinois picking up over 5 inches of rainfall by Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, 48-hour rainfall totals from July 25–26 reached 5.38 inches near Muscatine, Iowa, and over 5.2 inches in multiple Farmington locations. Much of the region south of I-80 saw between 2 to 4 inches, saturating fields and raising short-term flood concerns.
The heaviest bands targeted communities like Burlington, Macomb, and Galesburg, where radar estimates showed accumulations exceeding 4 inches. Roads remained passable, but low-lying rural areas and smaller creeks may continue to experience runoff through the weekend.
Rainfall has pushed monthly totals to 200–300% of normal in many spots, prompting agricultural drainage concerns and potential flash flooding during future storms. Residents are urged to monitor local alerts and avoid water-covered roadways.
While no formal flood warnings were active Sunday morning, forecasters warned more rounds of storms are possible early next week. Updates will continue as conditions evolve.
