Davenport, Iowa – A rapid warmup is pushing Quad Cities temperatures into the 80s by Monday afternoon, creating elevated fire danger before storms move in overnight.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, dry air and gusty conditions will keep fire risk elevated through Sunday and Monday, with highs reaching 64 to 70 degrees Sunday and surging to 77 to 84 degrees Monday. Humidity levels are expected to remain low enough to allow fires to spread quickly, especially in open fields and along rural roadways.
Communities across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including Davenport, Moline, and Rock Island, will see the highest risk during the afternoon hours when winds increase and vegetation remains dry. Burning is strongly discouraged, and residents should secure trailer chains and avoid parking on dry grass to prevent sparks.
By Monday night, conditions shift as a line of showers and thunderstorms develops, bringing a 20 to 50 percent chance of rain and lightning that could impact travel along I-74 and I-80. Roads may become slick during the late evening commute and overnight hours.
The warm, dry pattern holds through Monday afternoon before storms arrive late, with additional updates expected as timing and storm strength become clearer.
