Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – Afternoon outdoor plans could turn dangerous in the Quad Cities today as heat index values climb into the triple digits, with feels-like temperatures topping 100°F by mid-afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, air temperatures will rise between 88°F and 93°F Saturday, but high humidity will push heat indices into the mid-90s to low 100s until early evening. Dew points above 75°F will make conditions feel especially oppressive.
Cities including Davenport, Rock Island, Moline, and Bettendorf are all under a heat advisory. Prolonged outdoor activity could increase the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Residents are urged to hydrate frequently, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and avoid strenuous tasks during peak heat hours from 1 to 6 p.m.
Construction crews, delivery workers, athletes, and pets are especially vulnerable. Keep an eye out for symptoms like dizziness, nausea, and rapid heartbeat. Apply sunscreen and wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes to stay cooler.
Heat risks remain in effect through sunset, and more warnings could follow if the heat persists into Sunday.
