Davenport, Iowa – Scorching heat is gripping eastern Iowa and western Illinois through at least Wednesday, with dangerous heat indices pushing as high as 105° and little relief expected overnight.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through Monday evening, warning of increased risk for heat-related illnesses. Highs in the 90s paired with stifling humidity are producing peak heat indices between 100° and 105°. Overnight lows are only expected to dip into the mid-70s to near 80, offering minimal cooling.

Cities including Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, and Bettendorf will continue to swelter through early week. Monday may feel just as intense but with less wind, worsening heat impacts. Areas north of I-80, such as Clinton and Cedar Rapids, face the added threat of evening thunderstorms Monday, which could bring brief cooling but also pose localized flooding risks.

NWS also warns of multiple rounds of rain and storms Tuesday through Thursday, particularly in eastern Iowa, where flooding may become a concern.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. The heat threat is expected to linger into midweek, with updates likely as storm chances evolve.
