Davenport, Iowa – Triple-digit heat indices are expected to blanket eastern Iowa and western Illinois through Tuesday evening, with some locations reaching as high as 112°F by Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, oppressive humidity and soaring temperatures will combine to produce peak heat indices between 100° and 110° from Sunday through Tuesday. Cities including Moline, Fairfield, and Dubuque are forecast to see the most intense heat during the early afternoon hours, especially on Monday and Tuesday. Late-night and morning storms may slightly temper highs but will also add to humidity.
The heat will intensify between noon and 6 p.m. each day, with Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Freeport among the hardest hit. Prolonged exposure to this level of heat can be dangerous. Officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak hours, stay hydrated, check on vulnerable neighbors, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.
If power outages occur or cooling centers open, local emergency management agencies will issue updates. Heat advisories may expand or be extended, depending on storm activity and overnight temperatures.
