Davenport, Iowa – Dangerous heat continues to grip the Quad Cities region Thursday, with temperatures and humidity combining to push heat index values as high as 105° through 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for a wide swath of eastern Iowa, western Illinois, and parts of northeast Missouri. Cities under the advisory include Davenport, Moline, Burlington, Muscatine, and Macomb.
The heat index—how hot it feels when humidity is factored in—is expected to remain between 100° and 105° for much of the afternoon. That level of sustained heat raises the risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for outdoor workers, older adults, and those without access to air conditioning.
Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, drink plenty of water, and check on neighbors and relatives. OSHA recommends frequent shaded breaks for anyone working outside. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—dial 911 if symptoms occur.
Cooling centers are open across Scott, Rock Island, and Louisa counties. Power providers are monitoring grid usage, but no outages have been reported as of Thursday morning.
The Heat Advisory expires at 7 p.m., but similar conditions may return Friday. Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service.
