Davenport, IA – The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued another Freeze Warning for portions of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 27 degrees overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

According to forecasters, the warning covers areas including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Dubuque, Clinton, Rock Island, and Sterling, and will remain in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Friday. A previous freeze warning remains in place through 9 a.m. Thursday following overnight lows in the upper 20s.

The NWS reports that these conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and may damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are encouraged to cover or bring in plants and disconnect garden hoses to prevent damage from freezing temperatures.

While the chill marks the second consecutive freeze for the area, temperatures are expected to rebound slightly over the weekend before another potential cold front early next week.

Drivers and early commuters should also watch for frost on windshields and slippery spots during the morning hours.
