QUAD CITIES, IA/IL – Cold weather is moving into the Iowa-Illinois region, with freezing temperatures expected tonight through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service issued a frost and freeze warning for both states, advising residents to take immediate precautions. Temperatures could fall as low as 29 degrees in certain areas, leading to a hard freeze by Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service, lows will drop to between 31 and 38 degrees Monday, before sinking further into the low 30s by Tuesday and Wednesday. Homeowners are urged to disconnect hoses and sprinkler systems to prevent freezing. Sensitive plants should be covered or brought indoors to avoid frost damage.

Looking ahead, daytime highs will climb to the mid-60s but strong winds are expected to gust between 30 and 40 mph today, particularly impacting rural areas and open roadways like I-80. The gusty conditions are also creating high field fire risks. With dry fields, farm equipment could ignite fires, especially if care isn’t taken. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning until the winds subside.

Further into the week, temperatures will remain chilly, especially in the early mornings. Quad Cities residents should plan for cold, frosty starts on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. For the remainder of the week, high temperatures are expected to reach into the upper 60s, with the threat of frost fading by Thursday morning.
