Davenport, IA – Residents in the Quad Cities can take a literal swing at hunger this month during the Car Smash Fundraiser hosted by the Melody of Hope Advocacy Center. The event runs Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Happy Joe’s Pizza, 201 West 50th Street in Davenport.

According to event organizers, participants can pay $5 for one minute to hit a car with a bat or hammer in the spirit of “hammering out hunger.” Attendees who bring non-perishable food items will earn extra swings, with all collected donations going to the River Bend Food Bank.

Those unable to attend can still take part by scanning a provided QR code to sponsor a “smasher” or make a direct donation. All proceeds will benefit Melody of Hope’s holiday meals and gifts programs, which support families in need throughout the season.

The event is sponsored by Bridgeway Auto Parts, Fredi’s Towing, Happy Joe’s, Iron Tee Golf, and the Lions Club. Organizers encourage residents to come out, relieve some stress, and give back to the community at the same time.
