Quad Cities, IA – Severe thunderstorms are anticipated later today, potentially bringing damaging winds and an elevated tornado threat. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a watch effective from this afternoon into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms could begin early this afternoon, with the main threat window between 4 PM and 10 PM. Organized storms capable of producing damaging winds are probable within this time frame. An enhanced tornado threat cannot be ruled out. Forecasts indicate a high likelihood of at least part of the area experiencing severe weather.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts. Quick-moving lines of storms could rapidly change conditions from clear skies to severe weather. The best approach is to seek indoor shelter as soon as skies appear threatening.

The forecast timing suggests severe weather could hit Waterloo and Cedar Rapids from 4 PM to 7 PM, Iowa City and Davenport from 5 PM to 9 PM, and the Quad Cities area from 7 PM to 11 PM.
