Des Moines, IA – Scattered showers and isolated weak storms will move across much of Iowa through Monday, bringing a wet and cool start to the week.
According to the US National Weather Service in Des Moines, periods of rain will continue through tonight, with lingering showers lasting into Tuesday morning before conditions dry out. Most areas will see light to moderate rainfall, though a few thunderstorms are possible—mainly in the southeast part of the state this afternoon.
Forecasters noted that the chance for a strong storm over southeast Iowa is low, and the overall potential for severe weather remains minimal. Temperatures are expected to stay below seasonal averages, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s across most of Iowa and warmer readings in the 70s toward the southeast.
Drivers should be cautious during heavier rain periods, as wet roads could lead to brief visibility issues and slick conditions.
Cooler, drier weather is forecast to return by midweek.
