Des Moines, IA – Areas of dense fog are affecting visibility across portions of north-central and northeast Iowa, extending into southern parts of the state. The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued an advisory for patchy shallow fog, which is expected to last through 8 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service, drivers should be alert for reduced visibility at times and are advised to use low beam headlights. The fog is most dense in northeast Iowa, with visibility in some areas dropping to as low as 0.25 miles. This dense fog is also impacting northwest Illinois and low-lying areas or regions near waterways.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration advises travelers to allow extra travel time and maintain a safe following distance if encountering foggy conditions. Early morning commuters, particularly in areas such as Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, and the Quad Cities, should exercise caution.

Patchy fog can be especially hazardous during rush hour, and those on the road are encouraged to stay informed of weather updates.
