Dubuque, Iowa – Heavy rain has triggered a flash flood warning across Dubuque County, putting over 81,000 residents at risk through 7 p.m. Friday as rising water threatens homes, roads, and schools—particularly on the north and west sides of Dubuque and Asbury.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the warning includes Dubuque, Asbury, Peosta, Centralia, Graf, Sageville, Durango, and Sherrill. Residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas are urged to move immediately to higher ground. Floodwaters have the potential to rise quickly and unpredictably, especially near creeks and drainage systems.

Travel is strongly discouraged. Several roads in the affected area, including U.S. Highway 20 near Peosta and Route 52 around Sageville, may become impassable due to water accumulation. Schools and two regional hospitals are within the warning zone, and emergency managers are monitoring conditions closely.

Officials warn against walking or driving through flooded streets—just six inches of water can stall a vehicle. Keep cell phones charged and have an emergency kit ready in case evacuations are ordered.

This warning remains active until 7 p.m., with additional advisories possible if rain persists.
