DAVENPORT, Iowa – Drivers across eastern Iowa may face wet pavement this Tuesday as scattered thunderstorms develop south of Interstate 80. The National Weather Service warns some cells could produce funnel clouds, though severe storms remain unlikely. Travelers should slow down on slick stretches of I-80, especially during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, rain chances remain highest through late Tuesday before high pressure ushers in calmer, drier air by midweek. Skies clear quickly, leaving eastern Iowa with a string of fall-like, sunny days beginning Thursday.

Temperatures climb into the low 80s Tuesday afternoon before falling into the low 60s overnight. By Wednesday, highs dip into the mid-70s under partly sunny skies. Thursday through Saturday brings classic early-fall conditions: crisp mornings in the 50s and warm afternoons topping out near 82 by Saturday.

Residents planning outdoor events or travel later this week can expect ideal weather conditions after Tuesday’s unsettled start. Farmers and construction crews will welcome several rain-free days, while those heading to football games or fall festivals should pack sunscreen instead of umbrellas.

The first week of fall begins stormy but quickly transitions to a stretch of dry, mild weather across Davenport and the Quad Cities. Any new advisories will be issued if storm cells intensify Tuesday.
