Des Moines, IA – A bitter Arctic blast will bring life-threatening cold across central and northern Iowa, with an Extreme Cold Warning from 9 p.m. Monday to noon Tuesday, according to the NWS in Des Moines.

Wind chills could plummet to -40°F in cities like Waterloo, Fort Dodge, Ames, and Marshalltown, making frostbite possible in under 10 minutes.

Residents are advised to limit time outdoors, dress in insulated clothing, and keep pets inside. More extreme cold events are expected later in the week.
