Iowa Drug Bust: 3.5 Pounds of Meth, Guns Seized in McCallsburg Raid

Mason City, IA – A narcotics search warrant in rural McCallsburg led to the seizure of methamphetamine and firearms early Saturday morning, according to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the operation occurred around 3:03 a.m. on September 20 at a residence on County Highway S27. The search was part of an ongoing methamphetamine distribution investigation. The Iowa State Patrol Tactical Team assisted with the warrant entry.

During the search, deputies reported finding approximately 3.5 pounds of methamphetamine along with several firearms and ammunition.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Virgil Lee Kriens, 50, of McCallsburg, was arrested and charged by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department. Kriens allegedly possessed the meth with intent to deliver and was also charged with multiple weapons violations, including possession of a handgun and a 20-gauge shotgun as a felon. He also faces a charge of failing to affix a drug tax stamp to the meth, authorities said.

Further charges are possible as the investigation continues. The operation was supported by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the Mid Iowa Drug Task Force out of Marshalltown.
