QUAD CITIES, IA/IL – Another storm system is forecast to bring accumulating snow to eastern Iowa and western Illinois beginning this afternoon and continuing through tonight, according to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities.
Snowfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected across much of the region, with isolated amounts up to 5 inches possible, particularly from Iowa City to Macomb and Burlington. Snow will spread southeastward this afternoon, reaching peak intensity during the evening commute, when snowfall rates may reach up to 0.75 inches per hour.
A wintry mix could develop along the southwest edge of the system, though little to no ice accumulation is expected.
Motorists should prepare for snow-covered and slick roads, especially during the evening commute, and allow extra time for travel.
After this system passes, a surge of arctic air will bring dangerous wind chills between -20°F and -35°F Saturday night into Sunday morning across the region.
