Davenport, Iowa – Dangerous heat and humidity will grip eastern Iowa and western Illinois this weekend, with the worst conditions expected Saturday and Sunday afternoons when heat indices could exceed 105°F in several communities. The combination of high temperatures and moisture will make outdoor activity hazardous for extended periods.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, peak afternoon heat indices between 100°F and 108°F are likely across cities including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Moline, and Burlington. Overnight relief will be limited, with lows only falling into the mid to upper 70s, adding to heat stress. Officials warn that prolonged exposure could cause heat-related illness, especially for those without air conditioning.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor work during the afternoon, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers may open in some communities if extreme conditions persist.

The oppressive heat is forecast to linger into Monday before a slight break arrives early next week. Additional advisories or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
