Carter Lake, IA – Bitter cold and snow are set to impact Iowa this weekend, making Valentine’s Day travel difficult across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, wind chills could drop as low as -25°F on Friday, with a chance of snow developing overnight. Saturday brings a 50% chance of accumulating snow, along with strong winds that could create hazardous road conditions. Another round of dangerous cold follows on Sunday, with wind chills again dropping well below zero.
Residents should bundle up and limit time outdoors, as frostbite can occur in less than 30 minutes. Drivers should use caution, especially on interstates and highways where blowing snow could reduce visibility. The cold snap continues into early next week, with more chances for snow Monday and Tuesday.
