Davenport, IA – An Arctic air mass will bring dangerously cold temperatures to Iowa and Illinois this week, with wind chills dropping as low as -25°F to -30°F by Monday night. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch from Monday night through Tuesday morning, warning of frostbite risks in minutes.

According to the National Weather Service, a Cold Weather Advisory is also in effect from midnight through 11 a.m. Monday. Highs on Monday will only reach 10°F, while overnight lows will dip to -7°F. Strong northwest winds will create dangerous wind chills, making outdoor exposure hazardous.

Light snow is possible Monday afternoon, adding to travel concerns. Blowing and drifting snow could impact major roadways, including Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 61. Drivers should plan for reduced visibility and slick roads.

Residents should wear layers, cover exposed skin, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activity. Portable heaters should be used safely, and pets should be brought indoors.

By midweek, temperatures will remain below freezing, with lows near -4°F. The region is expected to warm slightly by Friday, but extreme cold will linger.
