Jackson County, IA – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new toll road scam spreading through text messages. Officials say scammers are sending fraudulent messages claiming recipients must pay a FastTrak toll fee to avoid fines or losing their license.

According to the sheriff’s office, the scam messages contain a link to a fake payment website and instruct recipients to reply with “Y” to activate it. The messages appear suspicious because they originate from a phone number with a +63 country code, which belongs to the Philippines, rather than a U.S.-based number.

Authorities urge residents not to click on any links or respond to the message. Instead, they advise reporting the scam and blocking the sender. Law enforcement officials stress that legitimate toll agencies do not demand payments via unsolicited text messages.

Residents who receive similar messages can report them to their local law enforcement or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to help prevent further scams. The sheriff’s office encourages the public to stay alert and avoid engaging with potential fraud attempts.
