Kankakee, IL – Kankakee State Park closes sections of its main bike trail this week to address invasive species removal. The closures, occurring in various 1/4 mile sections, will take place from June 24th to June 28th during weekdays.
According to Kankakee River State Park officials, the temporary closures are necessary for mowing and clearing invasive species that threaten the park’s ecosystem. Visitors are advised to avoid the closed sections and utilize the other 10 miles of trails that remain open during this period.
The specific species being removed was not named. However, homeowners across the Midwest have been dealing with the emerald ash borer, which has threatened trees across the region for nearly a decade.
The park encourages visitors to respect the closures to ensure the safety of both workers and visitors. Alternative trails offer ample opportunities for biking and enjoying the park’s natural beauty.
