Tulsa, Okla. – Thunderstorms are expected to build across eastern Oklahoma Friday, bringing the potential for gusty winds, frequent lightning, and brief heavy downpours through early Saturday morning. The most active period is forecast Friday afternoon and evening, with the highest storm chances south of Interstate 40, including McAlester, where probabilities climb above 60%.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, storm chances remain between 20% and 50% north of I-44, with Tulsa, Bartlesville, and Miami facing isolated but possible activity, particularly late Friday into early Saturday. The strongest storms may deliver quick bursts of rain and hazardous lightning, but widespread severe weather is not anticipated.

Drivers should be alert for slick conditions during heavier downpours, especially on stretches of I-40 and I-44. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid flooded low-water crossings and to remain indoors during lightning activity. Outdoor events across the region may see interruptions, particularly in Muskogee, Fort Smith, and Fayetteville.

Storm activity will linger into the weekend before gradually easing by midweek, with daily rain chances tapering off after Monday.
