Fairbanks, AK – Dangerous winter travel conditions continue across Interior Alaska today as Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for multiple regions, with blowing snow, reduced visibility, and hazardous roads creating potentially life-threatening conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Fairbanks, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 4 PM AKST Saturday for Fortymile Country and the Upper Tanana Valley, where additional snowfall of up to 3 inches is expected. Blowing snow may reduce visibility to one-half mile or less, with periods of near-whiteout conditions possible.

Communities impacted include Tok, Tanacross, Eagle, Chicken, Tetlin, Northway, and travel corridors along the Taylor Highway, Alaska Highway east of milepost 1392, and the Tok Cutoff north of milepost 105.

A separate Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM AKST Saturday for Delta Junction, the Northern and Southern Denali Boroughs, and portions of the Eastern Alaska Range. In these areas, forecasters report additional snowfall up to 1 inch, with wind gusts reaching 40 mph, further reducing visibility to one-quarter mile or less at times.

Major routes affected include sections of the Parks Highway, Richardson Highway, and roads near Denali National Park, Healy, Fort Greely, Anderson, and Delta Junction. Strong winds combined with heavy snow may down tree limbs and power lines, potentially leading to isolated power outages.

Officials warn that travel during these conditions could be extremely dangerous. Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary trips, slow down, and carry emergency supplies including food, water, and a flashlight.
