Spokane, WA – The first mountain snow of the season is expected across parts of Washington and north Idaho beginning Sunday evening and lasting into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Spokane.

Forecasters warn that elevations above 3,000 feet in the northern Cascades and northern Idaho mountains could see the first measurable snowfall of the fall season, with the heaviest totals—up to 8 to 12 inches—forecast near Highway 20 passes, including Washington, Sherman, and Loup Loup Passes.

According to the National Weather Service, slick and untreated roads are likely late Sunday night through early Monday, particularly for travelers heading over the mountain passes. Temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s and 30s, creating challenging conditions for motorists and outdoor recreationists.

The weather service advises drivers to plan extra travel time, carry winter gear, and check updated road conditions before heading into higher elevations. Lower valleys and urban areas, including Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, are not expected to see accumulating snow but may experience colder-than-normal overnight lows.
