Spokane, Wash. – Triple-digit temperatures will hold their grip on much of eastern Washington and north Idaho through Tuesday evening, with the National Weather Service warning that the heat could become dangerous for those without proper cooling or hydration. Afternoon highs are expected to range from 93 to 104 degrees in many communities, including Spokane, Moses Lake, Wenatchee, Coeur d’Alene, and Lewiston.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, the heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for a broad area stretching from the Okanogan Valley and Central Chelan County to the Palouse, Northern Panhandle, and Lewiston-Clarkston Valley. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heating hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
Cities such as Ritzville, Pullman, Sandpoint, Tonasket, and Omak could see prolonged periods in the upper 90s, with little overnight cooling in some valley locations. Cooling centers are available in larger cities, and health officials advise wearing light clothing, avoiding strenuous activity in the afternoon, and never leaving children or pets in vehicles.
The heat wave is expected to break late Tuesday night, with cooler temperatures arriving midweek. Further advisories could be issued if the high temperatures persist.
