SPOKANE, Wash. – A cool hush settles across Spokane’s hills this early Tuesday morning, the air crisp enough to hint at change. Thin fog drapes over fields near I-90, softening headlights and wrapping the valley in silver light. It’s quiet for now, but the pattern over the Pacific tells a louder story — one that ends with rain and possible early-season snow.

The National Weather Service reports another calm, sunny day ahead, with highs near 61°F and light winds. By Wednesday, skies stay mostly clear and pleasant, but by late Thursday, clouds will thicken and a shift begins. Highs hold near the low 60s, but moisture from a developing Pacific front starts drifting inland, bringing Spokane’s first solid chance of rain by Friday afternoon.

The real change arrives late Friday into Saturday, when colder air drops snow levels from around 5,000 feet to near 4,200 feet. Mountain passes, including U.S. 2 and Lookout Pass, may see slushy travel, while valleys stay wet and cool. Sunday brings another surge of moisture, and forecasters warn snow levels could lower again — possibly to around 3,800 feet, raising the risk of a light wintry mix near the higher benches east of town.

Travelers and commuters should plan for wet roads and sharp temperature swings this weekend. While Spokane proper likely remains rain-dominant, the mountains could get their first measurable snow of the season.

After a stretch of calm fall weather, eastern Washington is bracing for its first real brush with winter, a reminder that frosty mornings and early snow aren’t far off.
