Mentone, CA – A light earthquake struck near Mentone early Saturday morning, giving parts of San Bernardino County a small jolt but causing no reported damage or injuries.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake registered a magnitude 2.6 and struck at 2:05 a.m. local time (09:05 UTC) on Saturday, October 11, 2025. The epicenter was located about 5 kilometers south-southeast of Mentone at a shallow depth of 4.5 kilometers.
The California Integrated Seismic Network (CISN), which includes Caltech and the USGS, automatically recorded the event. Light shaking was detected across parts of Redlands, Yucaipa, and Highland, though it’s unlikely residents experienced significant movement.
Community reports on the “Did You Feel It?” system indicate mild intensity (Level III), consistent with a brief, gentle tremor often described as a “quick jolt.” No emergency alerts or infrastructure impacts were issued following the quake.
Southern California experiences thousands of small quakes each year, most too minor to cause damage. Still, officials remind residents to keep emergency kits ready and review earthquake safety plans, especially in seismically active zones like San Bernardino County.
