Okemos, MI – Residents in Ingham County will have the chance to safely dispose of unused prescription drugs this Wednesday, October 15, as the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office teams up with Delta Dental of Michigan for a community drug take-back event in Okemos.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the drive-through collection will take place from 3–6 p.m. at Delta Dental’s front visitor parking lot, located at 4100 Okemos Road. No questions will be asked, and participants are encouraged to remove or black out personal information on medication packaging before dropping items off.

Controlled substances such as pain relievers, antidepressants, sleep aids, and pet medications will all be accepted. The effort comes ahead of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on October 25.

According to health officials, prescription drug abuse has risen sharply over the past decade, particularly among youth. Nearly 80 percent of people who misuse prescription drugs reportedly obtain them from family members or friends.

Last year, Delta Dental and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office collected more than 70 pounds of unused prescription medication. Officials say safe disposal helps prevent accidental poisonings, drug misuse, and environmental contamination.

This week’s collection aims to keep dangerous drugs out of homes and waterways while promoting community safety and wellness.
