Mason, MI – A Buffalo, New York man has been sentenced to up to 20 years in a Michigan prison after being convicted of online child exploitation crimes that spanned multiple states, according to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office.

According to investigators, Dominic Anthony Candelaria, 27, was sentenced on October 8, 2025, by Ingham County’s 30th Circuit Court to serve 84 to 240 months in the Michigan Department of Corrections. He was found guilty of Child Sexually Abusive Activity and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime.

Candelaria was initially arrested and extradited from New York after detectives in Michigan linked him to an online child exploitation case. Authorities said he allegedly used social media to extort minors, obtaining sexually explicit content, including material involving a 12-year-old child in Ingham County.

Further investigation revealed that Candelaria was also the subject of an Interpol and multi-agency investigation across the United States, following multiple cyber tip reports submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office urged parents to talk with children about safe internet use and provided online safety resources through Michigan ICAC (www.michiganicac.com) and the NCMEC CyberTipline (www.missingkids.org/cybertipline) for reporting suspected exploitation.
