Valparaiso, IN – A yoga class in northwest Indiana is taking a wild twist next week, inviting participants to stretch alongside rescued possums while learning about wildlife conservation.

According to Humane Indiana Wildlife, the “Poses with Possums” event will be held Friday, Aug. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at its Valparaiso facility on North 450 East. The evening includes an hour of yoga suitable for all levels, followed by an opportunity to meet Flapjack and Eden, the nonprofit’s ambassador possums.

Organizers said the event is designed to merge wellness and wildlife education in a lighthearted setting. Beyond the yoga session, attendees will hear about the organization’s work in rehabilitation and conservation, as well as the role possums play in local ecosystems. While no animal handling is included, guests are encouraged to take photos with the animals during the session.

Humane Indiana Wildlife staff said spots are limited and available only to adults 18 and older. The group has hosted similar interactive programs with other animals in the past, but the possum-themed yoga class has quickly become one of its quirkiest and most requested activities.

“Whether you’re a yoga enthusiast or just curious, this is a chance to try something fun while supporting wildlife,” organizers said in the event announcement.

Registration for Poses with Possums can be completed through Humane Indiana’s website.
