Northern Indiana, IN – Lake Michigan beaches in southern Indiana are experiencing heightened swim risks due to weather conditions, according to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana.
A moderate swim risk is in effect today, with waves expected to reach 2 to 3 feet. This moderate risk means breaking waves and currents are anticipated, posing dangers around piers, breakwalls, and river outlets. The situation is expected to worsen, with a high swim risk starting late Sunday evening and continuing through Monday evening. Waves during this period could increase to 3 to 6 feet, creating life-threatening conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, a Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for La Porte and Berrien counties. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid swimming during these times due to dangerous wave and current conditions.
In addition to swim risks, the region will experience a range of weather conditions throughout the week. Today’s temperatures are expected to be between 72 and 79 degrees with breezy conditions. Monday will see cooler temperatures ranging from 64 to 72 degrees. As the week progresses, temperatures will rise, reaching highs of 86 to 91 degrees by Thursday.
