Indianapolis, Indiana – Rain is finally returning to much of Central and Southern Indiana, but it comes with a warning for possible flooding through Tuesday. The National Weather Service said showers and storms will increase tonight and become widespread by early Tuesday morning, bringing the heaviest rainfall to areas south of Interstate 70.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the probability of rain jumps from scattered 30% chances Monday afternoon to more than 80% overnight across much of the state. South Central Indiana, including Bloomington, Seymour, and Vincennes, faces the highest risk for heavy rainfall and localized flooding. A slight risk of excessive rainfall has been issued, meaning flash flooding could develop quickly in low-lying or poor-drainage areas.

Drivers should prepare for slick roads and ponding water during the Tuesday morning commute, especially along I-65 and U.S. 50. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways and clear storm drains ahead of the heaviest rain.

Rain chances taper late Tuesday, but additional showers may linger into midweek before drier air arrives.
