Indianapolis, Ind. – Showers and thunderstorms are set to move across Indiana Wednesday evening, bringing widespread rain and a chance for gusty winds into the overnight hours. Drivers and late-shift workers could encounter wet roads and reduced visibility through early Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a frontal system will sweep from northwest to southeast Wednesday evening, with rainfall most likely between midnight and 6 a.m. Thursday. Rain amounts are expected to range between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch, with locally higher totals possible, especially north of Indianapolis.
Cities including Bloomington, Lafayette, and Kokomo could see the heaviest rainfall overnight, while gusty winds may accompany stronger storms closer to daybreak Thursday. Commuters in Indianapolis may still face slick roads during the morning rush as showers gradually taper off.
Residents are advised to avoid flooded intersections, check local road conditions before heading out, and keep electronic devices charged in case of isolated power outages. While the severe threat is limited, a few stronger wind gusts are possible late Wednesday night.
Showers are expected to clear the state by Thursday morning, but additional weather advisories could be issued if storms strengthen.
