Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is in the midst of a dramatic weather turnaround, as temperatures climb sharply this week, pushing into the 50s by Tuesday and the 60s by Wednesday and Christmas Day, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Forecasters say this marks the next major step away from last week’s cold and snow, with southerly breezes ushering in much warmer air across the region. After seasonably chilly conditions today, highs will steadily rise each day through midweek.

By Tuesday, much of central Indiana — including Indianapolis, Muncie, and Vincennes — is expected to see highs in the low to mid-50s. Temperatures will climb further on Wednesday, reaching the upper 50s to low 60s, with Christmas Day highs potentially in the 60s, well above late-December averages.

Along with the warmth, cloud cover will increase, and forecasters note occasional light showers or drizzle may develop at times through midweek, especially late Wednesday into Christmas night. Rain chances appear limited, but increasing moisture could lead to noticeably higher humidity for late December.

The National Weather Service notes that above-normal temperatures are likely to persist through the final week of 2025, aligning with broader outlooks across the Midwest and Ohio Valley.

While the mild weather should support generally favorable holiday travel conditions, motorists are advised to remain alert for brief wet roads, particularly during overnight and early morning hours.

Residents across Marion County, Delaware County, Knox County, and surrounding central Indiana communities are encouraged to enjoy the mild holiday stretch while staying updated on forecast changes.
