Indianapolis, Ind. – Scattered thunderstorms and sweltering heat will make travel and outdoor activity challenging across central Indiana through midweek, with the most active weather expected Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, isolated storms are possible Monday afternoon in northwestern Indiana, expanding into scattered thunderstorms north of Interstate 70 overnight. While severe weather is not expected, forecasters warn that frequent lightning and gusty winds will pose hazards with any storm.
The bigger concern remains the heat. Afternoon heat indices could climb near 100 degrees again Tuesday, especially across western and southern counties. Hot and humid air will linger into Wednesday, when another round of showers and thunderstorms is possible across much of the region.
Residents in Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Lafayette should limit outdoor work during the hottest hours, stay hydrated, and monitor for changing conditions. Drivers may encounter slick roads during downpours, particularly along major corridors such as I-70 and I-65.
The National Weather Service advises that storm chances taper off late Wednesday, with cooler and drier air expected by Thursday. Additional heat advisories or thunderstorm outlooks could be issued if conditions intensify.
