Indianapolis, Indiana – Flash flooding could become a serious hazard across much of Indiana through Monday evening as rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms move across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a “Slight Risk” for excessive rainfall is in place through Sunday night, with a marginal flood threat continuing into Monday. Multiple waves of storms are expected to drop several inches of rain over areas that have already seen heavy precipitation in recent days.

Localized flooding may occur rapidly, particularly in low-lying areas, urban centers, and regions with poor drainage. Cities including Bloomington, Lafayette, Terre Haute, and Indianapolis are under elevated alert. Rural roads in southern Indiana and stretches of I-65 and I-70 may become hazardous, especially during overnight hours when visibility is reduced.

Residents are urged not to drive through standing water—just six inches can sweep away a vehicle. Keep phones charged, monitor local alerts, and have alternate routes ready in case of road closures. Emergency officials emphasize: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Rainfall may persist in scattered bands through Monday evening, and additional watches or warnings could be issued as conditions evolve.
