Indianapolis, Ind. – Central Indiana will see one last stretch of summer-like sunshine this weekend before a storm system brings showers and thunderstorms to start the workweek. Highs will climb into the mid-80s Saturday and Sunday with light winds, giving residents clear skies for outdoor plans.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, showers begin moving into the region Monday afternoon with scattered thunderstorms likely after 2 p.m. Rain chances increase to 70% by Monday night and climb as high as 80% Tuesday, with the heaviest downpours expected during the morning commute.
The unsettled weather may impact drivers along I-65, I-70, and I-74, where ponding and reduced visibility could slow travel. Power outages are also possible where thunderstorms develop. The National Weather Service recommends avoiding flooded roadways and securing outdoor items before storms arrive.
Temperatures will cool sharply behind the front, with highs falling into the low 70s by midweek. Drier air returns Wednesday, bringing back sunshine and more seasonal conditions into Friday.
Rain chances remain highest through Tuesday, with additional advisories possible as the system strengthens.
