Indianapolis, Ind. – Indiana closes out August with sunshine and light winds, but a shift is on the horizon as a storm system pushes into the state by Wednesday. After a run of mild afternoons in the upper 70s to low 80s, rain chances are expected to increase midweek, followed by a notable cool-down to end the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, quiet weather will continue through Tuesday with highs ranging from 78 to 82 degrees and overnight lows dipping into the 40s and 50s. Wednesday brings the return of unsettled skies as showers and possible storms move across central Indiana, potentially disrupting commutes and outdoor plans.

Residents in Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Lafayette should prepare for slick roads and slower travel during heavier downpours Wednesday afternoon. While severe weather is not the primary concern, forecasters caution that locally heavy rain could lead to ponding on highways, especially along I-65 and I-70.

Temperatures will trend cooler late in the week, a shift that could bring fall-like mornings across much of the state. Officials advise Hoosiers to take advantage of early week sunshine for any outdoor work before conditions turn damp midweek.

The next round of advisories could be issued as Wednesday’s system develops.
