Indianapolis, IN – Snow will begin impacting central Indiana roads after midnight, with slick conditions likely to develop just in time for the Wednesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, light snow will first reach western counties such as Terre Haute, Crawfordsville, and Lafayette shortly after midnight, then spread east into Indianapolis, Anderson, and Muncie during the pre-dawn hours. Snow will continue through the morning before tapering off around noon.

Most areas will see a few tenths of an inch up to 1 inch of accumulation, with the highest totals expected north of I-70, including Kokomo, Tipton, and Lafayette. Even minor snowfall will stick quickly on untreated roads as temperatures remain cold overnight.

Roadways including I-65, I-69, and I-70 could become slick, especially on bridges and overpasses where freezing occurs first. Drivers should expect reduced traction and allow extra time during the morning commute, particularly between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Residents are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and check Indiana DOT road conditions before traveling. Snow will gradually end by midday Wednesday, but lingering slick spots may continue to impact travel into the late morning hours.
