Indianapolis, IN – Drivers and residents across northern Indiana could face sudden severe storms by late Tuesday evening, with damaging winds and hail developing during peak nighttime travel hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms is in place Tuesday evening into the early overnight, with the greatest threat focused north of Indianapolis. Storms may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail up to 1 inch in diameter, and bursts of heavy rain capable of causing localized flooding.
Cities including Lafayette, Kokomo, Muncie, and Marion are in the higher-risk zone, while the Indianapolis metro could still see strong storms pushing through between roughly 8 p.m. and midnight. Key corridors such as I-65, I-69, and I-70 may experience sudden visibility drops and debris from strong winds.
While the risk level remains low-end, any storm that strengthens could quickly become hazardous. Residents should secure loose outdoor items, charge devices, and remain alert for warnings Tuesday night.
Storms are expected to weaken after midnight, but additional updates or advisories may be issued as conditions develop.
