Indianapolis, Ind. – Central Indiana will stay in summer’s steamy grip through Friday, with daytime highs ranging from the mid-80s to low 90s and humidity pushing the heat index even higher. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms remain possible each day, bringing brief downpours and gusty winds.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, Tuesday could see highs near 89 degrees, with a low of 70 overnight. Storm chances increase late in the day, especially for areas along and south of I-70. Wednesday and Thursday will be slightly cooler, with highs near 85 degrees, but scattered showers and storms will still be possible.
Drivers should watch for sudden heavy rain reducing visibility, especially on I-65 and I-69 during peak travel times. Outdoor workers and athletes are urged to stay hydrated and take breaks in shaded areas. Pet owners should limit midday walks to prevent heat-related illness in animals.
The heat builds again Friday, with highs near 88 under mostly sunny skies. More widespread storms could return by the weekend.
