Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana residents should brace for the first major winter blast of the season late Sunday into Monday morning, with temperatures plunging below 25°F and wind chills in the single digits, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis.
The agency said pleasant fall weather Friday, with highs in the low 60s, will give way to a sharp cold front this weekend. Rain will transition to snow showers late Sunday, with accumulations possible north of Indianapolis—especially from Kokomo to Muncie.
According to the NWS forecast, “wet surfaces will become icy Sunday night as temps plummet below 25°F, with slick roads into Monday morning.” The combination of cold air and gusty northwest winds will make it feel much colder, with wind chills ranging from 8°F to 18°F for most of central Indiana by early Monday.
Drivers are urged to be cautious on untreated roads and bridges late Sunday night into Monday morning, as slick spots are expected to develop rapidly. The NWS also recommends bundling up if heading outdoors, with wind chills remaining in the teens through Tuesday morning.
Residents should secure outdoor hoses and sprinkler systems to prevent freezing and monitor local forecasts for snow updates through the weekend.
This system marks the start of a pattern shift toward colder, more winterlike conditions across the region.
