Indianapolis, Indiana – Springlike warmth and rising humidity will set the stage for a wet stretch across central Indiana late this week, with multiple rounds of rain expected to impact travel and outdoor plans from Thursday night into Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered to numerous rain showers will develop late Thursday and continue into Friday, with a few thunderstorms possible Thursday night. A second, lighter round of precipitation is expected Friday night into Saturday, tapering off as colder air filters into the region. Total rainfall amounts around one-half inch are likely for most areas.

Indianapolis, Bloomington, Lafayette, Kokomo, and Muncie are expected to see the steadiest rainfall during the late Thursday night and Friday timeframe. While widespread flooding is not anticipated, ponding on roads and reduced visibility could slow traffic, especially during the Friday morning commute. Southerly winds gusting between 25 and 35 mph Thursday through early Friday may add to travel concerns for high-profile vehicles along Interstates 65, 69, 70, and 74.

Temperatures will remain unseasonably mild Thursday and Friday before trending cooler late Friday night. As the second system exits, rain may briefly mix with or change to flurries Saturday night, though no accumulation is expected.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items, plan for wet and windy conditions, and monitor later updates in case rainfall coverage or timing shifts. Additional advisories could be issued as the late-week systems move through central Indiana.
