Indianapolis, IN – A sudden downpour in eastern Hancock and western Henry counties has triggered a Flood Advisory through 7:30 p.m., putting drivers on alert for minor flooding on local roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a thunderstorm moved through the area late Wednesday afternoon, dropping radar-estimated rainfall totals of up to 1.5 inches south of Wilkinson. Localized flooding could impact roadways and low-lying areas, especially where drains are clogged or water typically collects.

Travelers across eastern Hancock and western Henry counties—including State Road 109 and county routes near Shirley and Knightstown—should watch for water-covered pavement. The advisory urges residents to avoid driving across flooded roads, as even shallow water can pose serious hazards.

Residents are encouraged to move vehicles to higher ground and monitor updates from emergency management and INDOT. Officials remind everyone: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

The Flood Advisory remains in effect until at least 7:30 p.m., with more alerts possible if additional storms develop.
