Indianapolis, Indiana – Humidity will grip much of Indiana this week as scattered thunderstorms and dangerous heat indices build through Thursday. While Monday remains mostly dry with highs in the mid-80s, the dog days of summer are making a humid comeback.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, heat indices will peak between 88 and 94 degrees Monday, with storms mainly impacting southern parts of the state. By Tuesday, more widespread storms are expected to develop, along with higher humidity and warmer temperatures.
Cities like Bloomington, Columbus, and Evansville could see afternoon downpours and evening lightning beginning Tuesday. Nighttime lows will stay muggy in the low 70s. Central Indiana—including Marion, Johnson, and Hancock counties—will likely face storm chances again Wednesday, with highs pushing 90 degrees.
Heat index values are forecast to reach near 100 on Thursday across much of the state, raising concerns for heat exhaustion during outdoor activity. Residents should limit strenuous activity in the afternoon, stay hydrated, and keep fans or AC units running.
Storm chances persist into the weekend, and additional advisories may be issued if storms intensify or rainfall totals increase.
