Indianapolis, IN – The coldest temperatures of the season are moving into central Indiana tonight, bringing single-digit to mid-teen lows and wind chills below zero, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
The bitter cold will persist through Friday, with high temperatures struggling to reach the 20s. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, ranging from -5°F to -15°F in many areas overnight.
Forecasters warn of an increased risk of frostbite and hypothermia, especially for those spending extended periods outdoors. Residents are urged to wear multiple layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outside.
The NWS also reminds the public to check on elderly neighbors, pets, and exposed water pipes, which are all vulnerable to freezing temperatures. Conditions are expected to slowly moderate over the weekend as winds shift and sunshine returns.
