Indianapolis, Indiana – Severe thunderstorms could rattle much of Indiana Thursday and Friday, with damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes possible during the late afternoon and evening hours both days.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather covers central and southern Indiana on Thursday, May 15, and continues Friday, May 16. Thursday’s threats include wind gusts over 60 mph, quarter-size hail, and a low-end tornado potential from Evansville to Indianapolis. By Friday, storms may shift eastward, with localized flooding concerns and continued wind hazards.

Cities at risk include Bloomington, Terre Haute, Columbus, and Muncie, where outdoor plans and commutes could be disrupted. Residents should secure outdoor items and prepare for possible power outages. With temperatures climbing into the upper 80s, heat may compound risks for those without access to cooling.

Drivers are urged to use caution on rain-slicked roads and avoid flooded low-water crossings. If warnings are issued, seek shelter indoors and monitor local alerts.

The severe weather threat is expected to diminish late Friday night, but additional updates may be issued as storm timing becomes clearer.
